Book Review: The Green Ember by S.D. Smith

The Green Ember by S.D. Smith is high quality children’s literature that comes at a time when children’s literature is missing heroic tales to inspire a new generation. I have been holding onto this book and waiting for just the right time to read it with my son. I could not get him interested in the idea of this story but I kept trying. This summer, at the age of nine, my son was finally ready to read this book. We read it together and I’m so glad we waited until now. He soaked up every part of this book and we had the best discussions about life and God along the way. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series with him soon. And he loved it so much that he’s making his daddy read the book now! Daddy is loving the book just as much as we did. Pick up this book and share it with your children. Our children deserve high quality literature that will inspire them to greatness and true calling in their lives. I highly recommend it.

 

Book Review: Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason

Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason is an exciting read that is perfect for readers that love military fiction and suspense. Most of the book occurs post-military service but there are definitely some portions in the beginning of the book. This book seemed to have the typical PTSD that people have after leaving the military. But nothing in this book is exactly what it seems. Pick up this book and get ready for an exciting ride. The suspense never ends and you will not be able to put it down. Ms Eason’s characters were the result of the author’s deep study of psychology and they ring with authenticity. Book Review: Airborne by Diann Mills

Airborne by DiAnn Mills is the author’s latest brilliant work of suspense. A new deadly virus mass distributed through an airplane— could anything be more frightening these days? I have long been a fan of this author and her ability to create unique suspense novels that never feel contrived or formulaic. With this novel, she once again proves her amazing storytelling ability as well as her ability to do impeccable research that is woven in so beautifully to complement the story. Book Review: Texas Twin Abduction by Virginia Vaughn

Texas Twin Abduction by Virginia Vaughn is a wonderful suspense novel. I think its size makes it the perfect summer beach or weekend read. What I love about this author is her ability to write compact fiction with high quality content. This book is one to pick up and read if you are looking for excitement! As a frequent reader of suspense, I thought I had this novel pretty well figured out. But I was wrong! I highly recommend this book to readers who look suspense. My Thoughts

Sincerely Yours by Kari Trumbo is a sweet romance and the perfect summer read. The characters in this novel had some serious difficulties and it is obvious that Ms Trumbo researched them well. For the most part, I think they behaved consistently with their issues. Overall, this is an absolutely wonderful romance and I think it is a great read for people looking for happy endings and positivity in an increasingly negative world. That being said, I think that the characters' issues are explored fairly in depth and could be triggers for some readers who have gone through similar experiences. The boss/employee relationship was also an interesting take. I definitely enjoyed this book and would recommend it to readers of romance. Thank you all so much for joining me on my blog tour! I’m happy to be here. I write an eclectic mix of historical (western) and contemporary (western and not) romance, sometimes with a hint of suspense woven in. I can’t help it; my education is a degree in psychology with a sociology minor focusing on criminality and deviance… the suspense just happens whether I plan it or not.
I am one of those writers who usually gets a story idea and then writes it. I usually don’t write a book just because I “should”. That being said, this is one of those books where readers asked for it and I delivered. The first story in the series is in a popular book bundle Betwixt Two Hearts. In my story, the secondary character Liberty Dryden (named after one of my readers) is a really fun character, even though she’s only in a few scenes. Readers liked her so much, they wanted her to have her own happily ever after.

Then the hard part began.

I liked Liberty and I spent a while in her head, trying to figure her out. She was a tough one because Liberty has some hurts. She feels alone and a little used. Don’t we all? But how to write that in a way where the reader wasn’t bored by her self-doubt. Because, let’s face it, it’s cool when a story touches us in a way that is familiar, but if it’s overdone…snooze. I liked the idea that because of their hurts, both characters were shy. So, I gave myself a challenge. These two couldn’t meet until later in the story, but it still had to feel like a romance.

It’s a little like the movie You’ve Got Mail, but different too.
This series was my first big step outside of the western genre (which is funny, because I’m not at all western) and that forced me to think in new ways, which helped with the characters and bringing this story to life.
My favorite poignant quote from Sincerely Yours is, “If I can’t forgive those who ask for it, it ruins my witness. I literally can’t be the love of Jesus if I’m not willing to forgive those who wronged me. Especially if they earnestly ask.”

Book Review: Don’t Keep Silent by Elizabeth Goddard

Don’t Keep Silent by Elizabeth Goddard is part of the Uncommon Justice series. Ms Goddard is a brilliant author and I love how she consistently writes suspenseful novels with strong female lead characters. In this book, she features an investigative reporter who gets pulled into a missing persons case when her sister in law goes missing. But nothing in this case is what it initially appears. Ms Goddard has crafted a brilliant mystery full of interesting characters with multiple layer that keep revealing themselves as the book progresses. The plot is intriguing and keeps building tension until it is nearly too much at times. Written from a Christian perspective, it is still a book full of hope and second chances. It is an important book, with its very real look at human trafficking and its reality in America. I have read other books by this author and I have found each of them unique and packed with suspense and some romance. I am definitely a fan of this author's work and I sincerely look forward to more books in this series or in similar series's in the future. Book Review: Until I Met You by Tari Faris

Until I Met You by Tari Faris is a mesmerizing read. To classify it as simply romance would be such a disservice to the brilliance of this work. This book follows the author’s debut novel, You Belong to Me. I loved that book, but this book is her best yet. Ms Faris skillfully weaves issues of forgiveness and past hurts into the lives of her characters and does not avoid hard questions about God and His nature. Her characters are so real and vivid that their wrestling with their pasts feels just as real to the reader. There are no easy answers here. But this book is such a ray of hope, hope in a God who sees us as we are and loves us thoroughly. Add to these themes the idyllic town of Heritage and lovely, clean romance— I cannot imagine a better read. I highly recommend this book and think it would appeal widely to readers.
